I think it’s one of their most interesting purple eyeshadow productions to date.

Those two shadows on the right side of the quad may look like pretty unassuming purples, but they each contain a surprising amount of blue.

Serenade, the lighter shade, is a mid-tone purplish pink with blue duochrome, while stay Sultry is a dark navy violet.

The blue in both shadows advertises itself more clearly on my skin than it does in swatches, and it’s weird — layered on top of a black base, both shades look almost more like blue eyeshadows than purple.

A breakdown of the eyeshadows in this look: The wrong man (a light amazing dusty pink) on my brow bones and in the inner corners), Serenade (a mid tone pinkish purple with blue duochrome pearl) on my lids and lower lash lines, Brazenly (a rich eggplant) in the crease and stay Sultry (a deep violet navy) in the outer corners. Also, on my lash and water lines, I’m wearing MAC Fluidline Eye Pencil in Black Brilliance. Lashes are Ardell 105s.

It’s as if the quad has a split personality. If you were to split it right down the middle, you’d have a blue duo on the right, and a more traditional purplish pink duo on the left.

A Passionate Quest (limited edition) is one of three quads in the MAC A novel romance collection, and I’d say it’s probably the most dramatic — and that’s not just because of the blue surprise. MAC really swings for the fences with the darker shades in the bottom half of the palette.

MAC’s been playing a lot with pigment over the past few seasons, especially with their limited edition quads, sometimes, I think, to the chagrin of their core fans. Deceptively dark shades in some of their quads turned out to apply surprisingly sheer, and depending on how rich and heavily pigmented you like your eyeshadows, these could have been hits or misses.

But this isn’t an issue for the two darkest shades in A Passionate Quest (the ones on the bottom half). Both are packed with pigment. It just takes a bit of Brazenly (the eggplant shade) or stay Sultry (the navy violet) to get a powerful punch, and neither shade suffers from bothersome fallout. also with these, I don’t have any major problems with blending, layering or wear time.

I can see the intensity of these shadows working well for dramatic smokey eyes in purple or blue tones, or for winged eyeliner looks.

So, I really like the face masks by SK-II, but hold my pears! — those things are obscenely expensive ($135). They’re maybe a once-every-two-years thing.

These Sephora masks, on the other hand, are only $6 each, and there are eight.

I chatted with a friendly Sephora makeup artist in the store, and she pointed out that the rose Mask was their bestseller, so I grabbed one of those. She also recommended the Honey Mask for straight-up hydration, and considering that the masks are only $6 each…

She also said that her personal favorite was the new Lotus Mask for refreshing worn out skin, so maybe I’ll try that one next time.

All of them are easy to use. just open the package, apply to clean, dry skin, and leave it on for 15 minutes. then remove and gently massage any remaining product into your skin. No need to rinse.

When I got home from Sephora this afternoon, I washed my face and used the rose Mask.

I was shocked by the amount of product in the fabric, considering that it’s only a $6 mask.

I think the SK-II masks I’ve tried in the past were juicer? — for lack of a better word, but this one is still moderately juicy, LOL!

When I removed the mask today and did a little facial massage, as per the directions, my skin felt a little less dry. I think I also looked less worn out and a lot more radiant.

That said, the areas around my mouth and cheeks that were dry before I used the mask were still a tad tight…although a bit better, so maybe this particular mask isn’t as ideally moisturizing as I’d like.

But it’s $6…which is $129 less than the SK-II masks (!).

I’m really looking forward to trying the Honey Mask next. hopefully that one’s even a lot more moisturizing.

They’re all meant to look reasonably natural, or natural-ish, so there are no outrageous glitter styles with rainbow gems at the tips.

They also don’t come with lash glue, just as a heads-up, so you’ll need to already have/procure some. A lot of the department store brands (MAC and Shu come to mind) don’t include lash glue with their falsies, so it’s not uncommon…but often it’s still a little inconvenient.

Oh, hello, Numero 1. I saw you winking at me from across the room!

This one — primary — was created by the man, the myth, the legend himself, Francois NARS. It’s an everyday, but far from boring, little-black-dress style created to complement all eye shapes. I popped ’em on this morning, just for fun, and they’re incredibly lightweight and comfortable.

I like that the lashes aren’t too long but are still noticeable. The band, however, is a bit long for my eyes, so I have to trim the ends a smidgen.

Numero 2’s lashes are a bit longer and the same length on each side. terrific for a full, lush fringe.
